Pancreatitis is a long-term and complex pancreatic disease with various causes. One of them: a serious violation of the regulations on eating fatty foods, overeating, and alcoholism. Following the special dietary rules for pancreatitis is half the battle.
The pancreatitis diet is designed to replace and supplement the menu with substances that are poorly processed due to lack of pancreatin.
Some patients believe that the nutritional therapy for pancreatitis is no different from Diet 5a and continue to follow its recommendations. This is understandable because most people have initially received long-term treatment for cholecystitis, gallstone disease or hepatitis. They are very familiar with Tables 5a and 5, and they have established the necessary nutritional standards for these diseases.
However, if pancreatitis is detected, diet 5a must be adjusted. Changes that occur when the pancreas is damaged need to be corrected for protein, fat and carbohydrate content. The diet of patients with pancreatitis is called "5p". Its protein content is increased to 150 g (in 5 100–120 g), and fat (at least 70 g in size 5) and carbohydrates (at least 300 g in size 5) are reduced. Rules of cooking and restricting food choices are still widespread.
Basic dietary requirements
The proposed rule of diet #5p does not exclude the use of digestive system comorbidities. They are very important to minimize the load on the pancreas.
- Only boiled, stewed, grilled or steamed food. Frying methods are completely prohibited.
- In the most severe stage of the disease, observe the sparsity of damaged organs by grinding all the plates.
- requires a moderate temperature (a sharp fluctuation from cold to hot).
- It is necessary to feed the patient a small amount of food, but every 3-4 hours.
- Avoid large single meals or even overeating.
- Maintain a daily caloric intake of at least 3000 kcal.
According to Povzner's recommended dietary table, taking into account the aggravated period and subsequent diet choices after the pain disappears, it is very important to maintain and continue proper nutrition in pancreatitis.
5p diet choices can exacerbate pancreatitis
The clinical manifestations of acute and chronic pancreatitis in the exacerbation phase (severe pain, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea) do not allow patients to eat in the usual way. The treatment plan requires complete fasting for two to four days. You can’t drink either; the fluid is given through an intravenous injection for the first few days. After stopping vomiting and pain, start a 5p diet. The goal is to reduce the formation of stomach acid and allow the pancreas to concentrate all its power in the struggle for survival.
The use period of this diet is not more than two weeks because of its unbalanced composition (protein reduced to 60 grams, fat reduced to 50 grams, carbohydrates reduced to 200-280 grams, and total calorie content is 1800 kcal). Of course, bed rest and lack of exercise are recommended.
The diet table menu for pancreatitis patients includes mashed potatoes and slimy soup, liquid grains in water (excluding semolina and rice), mashed potatoes or carrots plus zucchini, vegetable mashed potatoes, boiled pumpkin (not including any form ofCabbage), jelly, jelly, pudding, a few white cookies. Everything is cooked without oil. You can drink up to 2 liters of water, rosehip broth, and lightly sweet tea. After choosing this option, they switched to the second food under the advice of the doctor.
Diet does not worsen pancreatitis
The beginning of an effective recovery process depends on the normalization of temperature, the reduction of the frequency of diarrhea, and the absence of pain. The pancreatitis diet is increasing, but the maximum content of protein, fat and carbohydrates has reached the standard. Vitamins must be included in the current therapeutic diet to activate the body’s defenses. Patients must adhere to this diet throughout their lives.
